Following a successful outcome with their previous residence, these clients returned to Remick Associates a decade later to create a striking Wine Country home of 12,000 square feet on a twenty acre site. At 240 feet in length, 27 feet in height and two and one-half feet in thickness, an antique character rubble stone wall is the primary form-giver of the home. It acts as a unifying element that links the art gallery, sculpture courtyard and private living spaces. The home has a gracious informality allowing the owners to enjoy their extensive collection of contemporary art amidst the vineyard setting.
Tucked behind the stone façade, a wood framed house with French clay barrel tile roof and integrally colored stucco was constructed. It incorporates custom tilt-turn mahogany exterior doors and windows with fully integrated motorized shades and hidden insect screens.
“The wall makes the entire home more cohesive and contemporary in feel.” – Bill Remick
Hand-scraped pecan floors as well as antique hickory beams, imported European limestone fireplaces, and reclaimed stone floor tiles contribute to the old world character requested by the owners. Custom fabricated knotty alder doors, trim, cabinetry and hand-carved specialty doors are appropriate compliments to the integrally colored natural plaster interior walls.
The main staircase features a hand forged bronze railing fabricated by Michael Bondi Metal Design. Most of the casework fabrication was executed by Remick’s in-house staff and much of it was produced within temporary facilities on site.
A custom forged bronze awning and meticulously detailed Douglas fir trellises define outdoor views over vineyards to Atlas Peak in the distance.

Rubble Wall
Photographs of Tuscan villages and local Napa wineries provided the inspiration for the deliberately jagged cutouts and bricked-over windows in this stone façade, 27 feet high and over 240 feet in length.
